5 Great Pimple Patches for Black Skin

Pimple patches are having a new moment and we love to see it.

They’ve gone from something you use under the cover of darkness to a fashion accessory. Who said you can’t treat your pimple and have fun at the same time?

Pimple patches are designed to help heal a spot or protect the skin from an emerging pimple. We know that the earlier you tackle a pimple, the quickly it will go away and hopefully with as little drama as possible. We also love that pimple patches stop you from picking at your skin, which is very important for Black skin because usually it’s the picking that causes deeper hyperpigmentation that can be a pain to fade.

Pimple patches are made out of hydrocolloid - a type of wound dressing that absorbs moisture, so on a pimple they are effectively soaking up any  oozing liquid to dry it up whilst also protecting the pimple from dust, bacteria and UV rays. Most people report that when using pimple patches their skin heals faster and hyperpigmentation isn’t as dark or deep rooted.

You can either use plain hydrocolloid patches but if you want to push the boat out and accelerate healing, patches that contain salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide are the way to go.  Niacinamide is also an ingredient to look out for.

It’s important to note that pimple patches won’t treat blackheads or deeper cystic type of acne, for these concerns it’s best to check in with one our skin professionals. But for day to day spots and pimples, they are very handy. To make the most out of them, apply to clean and dry skin, before applying any other lotions.

Across all age groups we love the confidence boost that pimple patches bring, especially with fun and bright colours and it takes spots from being something we suffer with quietly to a more universally accepted experience because let’s face it, there is no such thing as perfect skin.
