Bare Skin - Bright and Beautiful!

There’s nothing more liberating than having the confidence to rock your bare skin and so many of us are now choosing to go make up free. Of course, we’re lapping it up at Black Skin Directory because there’s nothing more we love than seeing Black and brown women embrace their natural skin. Our philosophy has always been to empower you with the knowledge and advice to help you keep your skin in it’s best health, so you can step out like a baddie in self love and acceptance.

Six tips for your best bare skin moments

Use a gentle exfoliating cleanser

Skin looks lovely and radiant when light bounces of it and this only happens when there is a smooth surface. Daily gentle exfoliation will polish the surface of the skin whilst also removing old and dead skin cells.

Hydrate and moisturise

The skin need a mixture of water and oils to keep it balanced and radiate a natural healthy glow. This calls for hyaluronic acid and fatty acids; lucky for us, we can find these ingredients in many of the skincare serums we use nowadays.

If you prefer to skip serums, then a water drenching moisturiser is another option. Most moisturisers are full of hyaluronic acid, squalene, glycerine - all amazing humectants that keep the skin healthy.

Include Vitamin C

This is a power house antioxidant that helps to protect the skin from the dulling effects of the environment, but it also helps to perk up your skin so it looks more alive and full of vitality. Additionally it helps to build collagen in the skin helping it to stay plump and bouncy.

Finish with face oils

Lightweight botanical oils pressed lightly into the skin are fantastic for locking in moisture and prevent the skin from losing water. They also provide a subtle highlight and glow for the skin.

Treat with retinoids

We’ve waxed lyrical about retinoids over the last few years, and that is because they are just so good! Truly a jack of all trades especially to stimulate the skin’s own natural hyaluronic acid reserves, fade hyperpigmentation, stimulate collagen, smooth and exfoliate, control oil and minimise the appearance of pores. All together, retinoids really give the skin a radiance boost.

Light up with LED

If you want to really put the boat out invest in an at home LED device. LED light therapy will rejuvenate your skin cells, calm inflammation and promote healing, giving you a big dollop of glory skin energy. The key thing is to use consistently - three to four times for the best results.
