Chemical Peel

Chemical peels are suitable for all types of skin conditions, from acne and hyperpigmentation to scarring and even rosacea. Their function is to improve your overall skin condition.

They also decongest and remove oil from your pores, so pore size appears minimised and there is improved oil control. Cue less breakouts and acne! Peels stimulate collagen and hydration too, so your skin is plumper and firmer, and they help to fade hyperpigmentation and dark marks so they overall skin tone is evened out.

Chemical Peel FAQs

  • Chemical peels usually come in a fluid or cream solution and are designed to deeply exfoliate the skin by removing old and dead skin cells from the surface.

This process stimulates new and fresher skin cells to the surface giving a clearer and more even complexion.

Chemical also control oil, making the skin less greasy and acne/breakout prone.

  • Chemical peels are the workhorse of the skincare industry. The are great for:

    • exfoliation

    • oil control

    • reducing breakouts and blackhead

    • fading hyperpigmentation and dark marks

    • stimulating collagen and moisture within the skin

  • This depends on the type of peel you get. Acid based peels tend to feel warm, spicy and tingly on the skin creating a small amount of discomfort.

Vitamin A (Retinol) based peels don’t usually have any immediate sensations and are virtually pain free.

  • Yes! Black skin can safely have superficial and medium depth chemical peels.

Deep peels are trickier and can have complications so on the whole, they are best avoided.

  • It can vary.

Acid based peels are usually very quick within five to eight minutes from application to removal.

Vitamin A (Retinol) based peels can be left on the skin from four to twelve hours.

  • In the first few days after your chemical peel service, the skin can look dry and feel tight. Sometimes, you skin will also shed and you may experience a small purge due to the stimulation.

After this initial period, your skin is usually very radiant, more even toned, less greasy and with fewer breakouts.

  • Most superficial peels have to be repeated every four to six weeks. Medium peels can often last up to three months if the skin is being looked after properly.

  • You won’t get the same in-clinic results and it is not advised to use professional level products at home.

There are milder home-use chemical peels you can use to maintain your skin in between appointments.

  • Immediately after your treatment you skin may feel warm and sensitive, but there isn’t usually any tell tale signs. Some people may look a bit flushed.

Long stay peels tend to be transparent so again there are few indications that you have a chemical peel on your skin.
