Black Skin Summer Body Glow

With confirmation this week that we’re set to bask in a heatwave, further into August, it’s definitely an apt time to talk about summer body skincare.

Uneven skin tone, dry rough textured skin and skin conditions like Keratosis Pilaris can make us wary about exposing our skin and lead us wanting to cover up, when in fact, we should be stripping down as much as possible to keep cool.

Black skin can look dull and lacklustre very quickly so we’ve put together the Black Skin Directory three step short cut to smooth, even and radiant skin. Here comes your summer sizzle!

Step One - Exfoliate

Try dry body brushing the areas that are most troublesome - usually thighs and arms. This will invigorate the skin, dislodge dead skin cells, improve circulation and encourage better lymphatic drainage. For really stubborn dry scaly skin, we like to apply Exuviance Retexturing Treatment  (£29.99) the night before. The 10% combination of glycolic acid and wonder ingredient Gluconolactone will boost exfoliation, but at the same time encourage moisture, giving you the best of both worlds.

When using an AHA product anywhere on the body, SPF is a must!

Step Two - Wash

The key here is to exfoliate in gentle stages, including humectant based products, so your skin holds on to hydration and doesn’t become aggravated. Wash with Ameliorate Nourishing Body Wash  (£10.50) which is soap free and pH balanced – so doesn't dry out your skin and a unique hydrating complex to keep skin moisturised through out the day.

Step Three - Moisturise

Well hydrated skin will always appear more even toned and healthier than rough dry skin, so using a light combination of topical hydrators and oils will help to lock and seal moisture into the skin. Immediately after showering, whilst skin is still damp, apply Nuhanciam Ultimate Body Treatment  (£22.52) a rich treat for dry skin with Hyaluronic Acid, Shea Butter and Macadamia oil to deeply nourish the skin. Also contains their Alpha-Melight formulation designed to even out the skin tone which is usually a top concern for black skin!
